O (die shOw)
O is a circle, a sound, the beginning of a story – and so much more than just a letter! Taking this form as their point of departure, the three performers Jan Kress, Julia Keren Turbahn and Jan Rozman invite the audience to join them in testing the limits of our communication. How many words can be fashioned from three letters? How can a body become a letter and a word become movement? How can language be dissolved?
This very special performance shows how flexible language is and says goodbye to unambiguity. Because communication is everywhere: in a gaze, in rhythm and in the body! With the aid of many different word games, beats, dance, spoken and sign language, everyone is invited to consider communication as many-layered and vibrant. The audience joins in deconstructing words and inverting and reassembling letters. This creates curiosity about communicating with each other as well as about the mechanics and variability of language itself.
baff is a team of deaf* and hearing artists and culture makers who develop innovative dance performances for audiences of all ages. They are committed to a cultural exchange between the cultures of deaf and hearing people with the aim of working together on an equal footing, both on stage and behind the scenes. In baff’s productions, the different aesthetics are combined in a creative manner and German Sign Language (DGS) is made tangible to everyone.
For baff, the term deaf* includes various identities and lived realities such as completely deaf, hearing impaired, CI-wearing as well as late deafness.
