Residenz 2022/23
Residenz 2022/23
Whatever applied yesterday no longer applies today. We live in uncertain times, the tasks and challenges that face us are huge and they are specific. What can art achieve, what is the role that the theatre plays in a rapidly changing present?
On the one hand, the co-productions featured in this season’s Residenz-programme continue to address the issues that have long been on the minds of the public and the art sector, even without pandemic and war: We are exploring our relations with the ecologies and economies of our coexistence and questions of emancipatory self-empowerment.
In terms of the Leipzig theatre landscape, we are looking forward to continuing KATAPULT – Performance Plattform Leipzig together with LOFFT – DAS THEATER and Schaubühne Lindenfels.
Furthermore, there is an increasing number of issues that deal with fundamental questions of our existence, and in performance this always means the possibilities of our existence on stage. Topics that are being renegotiated under new terms, starting out from the experience of so many shattered certainties in such a short period of time. The experience of the body in space under the impression of dissolving contexts. The appropriation of the stage as a space to live in, combined with the question of what we need to construct something like a home. And revolving in the balance of power between centre and centrifugal force, between searching for the middle ground and ecstatic externalisation.
These are ponderous topics. But it is precisely the art of art to create distance and to offer spaces for reflection, spaces where our senses are allowed to roam in ambiguity, sometimes in levity and humour, sometimes in formal strictness, to enable at times uncomfortable encounters and notions.
Our audience is cordially invited to take this time for themselves.
