Last but not last

Lina Majdalanie, Rabih Mroué (Beirut/Berlin)
On a sunny Sunday, in 2016, in a little church, in a little town in Poland, a very strange wedding took place. It gathered the living and the dead, fiction and reality, politics and fairy-tales …
Based on a true event, the Lebanese artists Lina Majdalanie and Rabih Mroué explore these hybrid, eclectic narratives and imageries at work in today's political discourses in Poland, trying to investigate their sociopolitical mechanisms and economic interests.

Marta Keil and Grzegorz Reske (Performing Arts Institute, Warsaw) together with HELLERAU – European Center for the Arts, Dresden, invited the two artists for a common research process on the affects produced and reproduced in contemporary right-wing governments and Neo-nationalist ideology. The performance “Last but not last”, resulting from this research, tackles the case of the political shifts in Poland that seem to reflect broader changes in European societies, and far beyond.
