Christopher Nell

Born in Kaufbeuren/Allgäu in 1979, the actor and singer studied at Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock between 2002 and 2006, and regularly worked at Volkstheater Rostock and Staatstheater Schwerin during this time. In 2005, Claus Peymann invited Christopher Nell to join Berliner Ensemble, where he worked initially as a member of the acting company and later as a freelance actor. In numerous productions by Claus Peymann, Peter Stein, Leander Haußmann, Robert Wilson, Mona Kraushaar and Manfred Karge, he played and plays roles including Romeo, MacHeath, Hamlet and Mephisto. In Robert Wilson’s production “The Life and Death of Marina Abramović”, which premiered at the 2011 Manchester International Festival and has since been presented at numerous renowned theatre venues worldwide, Christopher Nell played alongside Willem Dafoe, Anthony Hegarty and Marina Abramović. In 2016, Christopher Nell made his debut at Burgtheater Wien in a world premiere of Peter Handke’s play “Die Unschuldigen, ich und die Unbekannte am Rande der Landstraße” and he has been playing the role of Puck in Leander Haußmann’s production of William Shakespeare’s “Ein Sommernachtstraum (A Midsummer Night Dream)” there since 2017. In December 2018, he performed in the tragicomedy “Haußmanns Staatssicherheitstheater”, which opened the new season of Volksbühne Berlin. Furthermore, since 2003, Christopher Nell has been touring with Claudia Graue and Marcus Melzwig as the award-winning a capella-trio “Muttis Kinder”, both in the German-language region and internationally in Singapore, Taiwan, Canada, Great Britain, Romania and Croatia. David Bowie’s “Lazarus”, is Christopher Nell’s first performance at Schauspiel Leipzig.
