Forces of Nature

Ivana Müller (Paris) / Artists in Residence
More than ever, movement, or its impediment, is part of our lives: if it is not professional or leisure mobility that moves us, then it is a whole system of production and consumption that creates movement, of bodies and objects. Inertia, momentum, gravity, resistance, force of action and reaction, these are the principles of mechanical forces that impel and impact, in both physical and metaphorical sense, the functioning of the world. The question: What forces are working on us right now and how do they make us move? was a starting point of Forces of Nature, entirely created during the period of Covid-19 lockdown confinement.

In this physical and imaginary journey, a group of five humans connected by visible and invisible attachments build a habitat, a world, a place in which they can project themselves together. A physical construction that gets created through their collective efforts and movements becomes a framework for action, for life, for thoughts. The piece is woven through conversations and stories that question the meaning of interdependence, work, trust and care and the relevance of individual and collective choices. Proposed as a shared daydream, Forces of nature celebrates the poetic gesture and the power of collective imagination as some of the most determinant legacies of humanity.

The choreographic, participatory, theatrical and performative works of Ivana Müller, who has been working for 20 years in the international art field, mainly in theaters but also in contemporary art context, rethink our place in the world and offer a meet in real spaces through collective experiences.
