Shaw Cain, also known as Black Poptar, is a pop artist shaping her own sound and visual identity, from writing and production to direction. Her sound is raw, razor-edged, and runway-ready, blending techno, house, hip hop, and the maximalist pop production of early 2000s visionaries like Danja and Timbaland into club-driven records with undeniable attitude.Raised in Detroit, Shaw Cain's artistic foundation was forged in a city known for innovation and resilience. In 2022, she relocated to Berlin, expanding her creative reach and finding a second home in a city whose electronic music legacy shares a deep connection with, and draws influence from, her hometown. Since then, she has performed throughout Europe and the United States, building a growing audience through electrifying live shows and a distinct artistic vision.
Now preparing to release her second project, Shaw Cain enters a new era, pushing her sound further while refusing to be confined by genre or expectation.
As a Black trans woman, Shaw Cain is carving out space on her own terms, creating pop culture representation that has too often been absent through uncompromising artistry and fearless expression.
