#1 Hören. Tanz. Gehirnzyklen.
Laurent Chétouane (choreographer) & Tommaso Tosato (neuroscientist)
How does the sense of hearing affect our movements and the body in general? Can we hear movements? When the visual perception of the body is not given, movement is perceived differently. What does such a dance look like that is created out of auditory perception? In his last piece, "Invisible Piece #1", Laurent Chétouane explored the connection between hearing and movement, and developed a choreography in which listening to the movement is at the center of the relationship between the dancers.

Tommaso Tosato is working with the concept of “brain cycles”: the idea that the brain activity is rhythmic, and that our ability to perceive and to initiate movements is mediated by these rhythms. What happens when we are together, sharing the same perception of space and time, but acting differently on it (e.g. being part of the same choreography)? Recent studies suggested that synchronization of brain rhythms is a fine tuning occurring during speech and enhancing its comprehension. Can we extend this idea to dance – and perception of dance?

In this open dialogue, Chétouane and Tosato will provide insights into the unconscious processes that nourish inter-individual relationships on stage, in choreography and theater, and in our social contexts.

As part of this event, a dance workshop by Laurent Chétouane will take place from 1 to 5 pm at the Tanz Zentrale. read more
