    Wüste

    by Sam Max
    German translation by Maria Milisavljević
Since its opening twelve years ago, the venue Diskothek has been a space of reflection on our present times, a space of experimentation for new writing, a space of opportunity for authors. It is the venue of Schauspiel Leipzig that is dedicated exclusively to contemporary drama. World premieres are one fixed feature of Diskothek’s programme, but there are also productions of already premiered plays that are worth another look. Cooperation with various forums and festivals of contemporary drama constitute another facet of the repertoire. For years, we have been implementing Diskothek’s concept of giving voice and space to contemporary authors in a great variety of ways.

In the spring of 2026, Wilke Weermann will work at Diskothek for the first time. He studied directing at the Academy of Performing Arts Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg. His diploma production “Fahrenheit 451” at Schauspiel Stuttgart was invited to the festival radikal jung at Münchner Volkstheater in 2018. In 2019, he received the Hans-Gratzer-Scholarship. Wilke Weermann was nominated as author of his play “Hypnos” at the 2021 Heidelberger Stückemarkt. In 2022, “Der eingebildete Krake” was presented at Theater der Jungen Welt in Leipzig. For his own staging of his play “Unheim”, he received the 2024 Kurt-Hübner-Directing-Award. Wilke Weermann has been working at theatres including Staatstheater Kassel, ETA Hoffmann Theater Bamberg, Schauspiel Köln, Staatstheater Saarbrücken, Staatstheater Stuttgart, Schauspiel Frankfurt and Deutsches Theater Berlin.
