In the Diskothek’s programme, they adopt a consistently documentarian approach: Regine Dura and Hans-Werner Kroesinger, who, as dura & kroesinger, have been renowned for over 25 years in German-speaking countries and internationally for their investigative theatre projects. In their work, they explore historical events and social experiences, bringing to light matters that have been repressed or forgotten. Interviews with contemporary witnesses, source material and archive footage coalesce into theatrical experiments that bring out the inherent drama of the subjects.
At Schauspiel Leipzig, dura & kroesinger have already explored the history of open-cast lignite mining around Leipzig in 2020 and the youth work camps in the GDR in 2022. For their new project, they set out to trace a phenomenon as elusive as it is powerful: the glue that holds society together. When we speak of lost or crumbling social cohesion, did it ever exist and does it still? How is it created, staged, reflected upon? And where should one look for it or its traces?

dura & kroesinger go where social connections are experienced in concrete terms – to the places where people come together to negotiate interests, resolve or stir up conflicts, and to the organisations, clubs, and initiatives that structure communal life. The results of this research journey will be on display at the Diskothek from October.
