ag(o)ra 2025/26
ag(o)ra
We are looking forward to discovering a very special place in the city with you: the premises of the agra Messepark Leipzig. Until October 2025, its Hall 4, once the culture venue for the GDR’s agra agricultural exhibition, will be the interim location for Schauspiel Leipzig.
Schauspiel Leipzig will transform the historic area of the agra into the ag(o)ra: In ancient Greece, the agora was the place where society’s issues were discussed and negotiated. And so we want to deal with the history and stories not only of this particular area at the ag(o)ra.
In September, there will be a very special premiere at the ag(o)ra: We will use the wide expanse of Hall 4 to bring Shakespeare’s final play to theatrical life in a special spatial situation – “The Tempest”, directed by Adewale Teodros Adebisi.
Previously, in August, the ag(o)ra will present the open-air theatre “Ich denk schon wieder (nur an dich)”, which is a playful continuation of texts by Liv Strömquist and Ada Berger. In September, there will be the final performances of the research project “Die Gläserne Kuh – Prüfbegehung der agra-Landwirtschaftsausstellung 1981”, which is a scenic walking tour on the agra-premises exploring the history of this agricultural exhibition and features an exclusive visit to the preserved sound-booths and the projector rooms of the former culture hall as well as the “agra-Club”.
On 22 September, Sven Regener will be a special guest at ag(o)ra. Together with his Element-of-Crime band colleagues Richard Pappik on drums and Ekkehard Busch on the piano, he will present his new jazz programme in concert.
From 16 to 25 October, the Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung (Federal Agency for Civic Education) will host the 12th edition of the long-established festival “Politik im Freien Theater”, a cooperation with Schauspiel Leipzig, Theater der Jungen Welt, Schaubühne Lindenfels, Westflügel and LOFFT – DAS THEATER.
Further information on these productions and projects can be found on the following pages. The construction measures on the Main Stage, which are the cause of the interim period at agra Messepark Leipzig, are planned to end in late October.
