Residenz 2025/26
Residenz 2025/26
We are living in turbulent times across all areas of life. And following the recent Covid-epidemic and the current cuts in culture budgets across Europe, the independent theatre scene has had to take some severe blows. Today it is therefore all the more important to enable continuity and reliability in cooperation with the extremely vulnerable structures of the independent performing arts. And despite all local austerity measures, the tectonic shift in our current political landscape shows that we must not lose sight of the international perspective on our present times. The programme of Schauspiel Leipzig’s venue Residenz at the Spinnerei represents just this conviction.
This season will feature several European companies that will be familiar to the loyal Residenz-audience, even if some of them will return in unexpected constellations. But more importantly: All these projects address basic issues. The shows deal with normality and insanity, with the value systems of our judgment, with the yearning for faith, with vulnerable bodies, and with the search for an escape from a seemingly inescapable situation.
But even in the fact of all these weighty questions, art is also allowed to be fun. So all invited artists have a mischievous kind of look in their eyes which allows them to flirt with the audience and to forge secret alliances. And in the spirit of this season’s motto, we will open the season at Residenz with the international choir ChorAlle and their live audio-play production “Sound of Us”.
Coproduction partners of the 2025/26 season:
3 bis f (Aix-en-Provence, FR), C-TAKT Pelt (BE), Göteborgs Stadsteater (SE), Hebbel am Ufer Berlin, Kunstencentrum BUDA Kortrijk (BE), Le Quartz Brest (FR), Playground STUK & M Leuven (BE),
