Director-in-Residence
Philipp Preuss was born in Bregenz in 1974. He studied directing and acting at the Salzburg Mozarteum and has been working as a freelance director and visual artist since 2001. His productions have been presented at Schauspielhaus Bochum, Theater Dortmund, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Schlosstheater Moers and Deutsches Theater Berlin, among others. In 2005, he was invited to the festival “Radikal jung” and received the Prize for Visual Arts of the International Lake Constance Conference in 2003, the Advancement Award of the Federal State of Northrhine-Westphalia in 2007, the Audience Award and the Award of the Youth Jury at the 2012 NRW-Theatertreffen. His current productions include “Das Kalkwerk” by Thomas Bernhard at Schaubühne Berlin, Kafka’s novel fragment “Amerika” at Schauspiel Frankfurt and “Torquato Tasso” by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe at the Munich Residenztheater. Furthermore, Philipp Preuss stages exhibitions with fictitious, virtual artist characters played by actors – expanding the concept of theatre into the field of visual art. His exhibitions have been presented in several cities, including Bregenz, Vienna and Milan.
He has been director-in-residence at Schauspiel Leipzig since the 2015/16 season.
