NEW FAKES

Artists‘ workshop with Rabih Mroué (Beirut/Berlin)

26th to 28th February 2019 / 10:00–17:00 h
Residenz, Schauspiel Leipzig
Rabih Mroué was born in Beirut and is based in Berlin. He is an actor, director and author; as well as he is the editor of the Lebanese magazines “Kalamon” and “The Drama Review” and a founding member of the Beirut Art Center Association (BAC). His work is located at the interface of performance and visual arts. It often combines mundane, real-life material with fictitious narratives that he develops for his performances. The unique connection between aesthetic and political research is a distinguishing feature of his work. For many years now, he has been exploring images of violence, the mechanisms of the cult of martyrdom and political propaganda. He collects material, disassembles and overwrites it, creating works that question the ways images and stories are constructed and used.

The workshop NEW FAKES deals with narratives, everyday experiences and body languages in order to create alternative strategies in doing performances and art projects. The workshop deals with methods of overwriting documents and factual reports with fictional narrations. It examines the facets which occur in the grey area between imagination and information.

This workshop is aimed at professional artists from all genres. It will be held in English.
The maximum number of participants is 15.

Participation fee: €50  (including a ticket to the performance of “Sand in the Eyes” / 1st & 2nd March 2019, 8pm).
