Bettina Schmidt
Bettina Schmidt trained at Folkwang Hochschule in Essen. After graduating in 2001, she spent the first years of her career at Theater Ingolstadt, where her ongoing cooperation with director Schirin Khodadadian began. Among others, Bettina Schmidt played the title role in William Shakespeare’s “King Richard III”, directed by Peter Rein. In 2005, she received both the Bavarian Advancement Award for the Arts (bestowed by the State Ministry for Science, Research and Arts in Munich) and the Rotary Theatre Audience Award of Theatre Ingolstadt. For two years, Bettina Schmidt worked as a freelance actor at theatres including Staatstheater Kassel and Theater Bonn. She was a member of the acting company of Theater Chemnitz from 2008 to 2010 and joined Schauspiel Essen in 2010. For her performance in Elfriede Jelinek’s “Ulrike Maria Stuart”, directed by Hermann Schmidt-Rahmer, the jury of the 2012 NRW-Theatertreffen selected her as best actor. She has been teaching at Folkwang Universität der Künste since 2011.
