Commissioned by Schauspiel Leipzig
                        Von Wunden und Wundern (UA)
Everything must have its order in Germany, even the system of miracles. Frau Hunzen is in charge of the painstaking review and certification of all kinds of miraculous apparitions. Via a challenging course of evening classes, she achieved the rank of a nationally certified civil servant responsible for miracle evaluation.
One day, she comes across a young couple. It’s evident that they have been in urgent need of a small or large miracle for quite a while. They’ve tried everything to give their relationship new momentum: internet shopping, role play, Uno. Will Frau Hunzen find something in the couple’s one-bedroom flat? Is there a however unlikely, abstruse, natural law-defying, ergo: miraculous glimmer of hope for an existence that takes place in a confined space?
In her new play, Sarah Kilter trains biting humour and a trenchant gift for observation on the bottomless pit of a normality revolving in ever decreasing circles around an unhappiness that just won’t go away, around mysterious cats and, above all, around itself.
Sarah Kilter, born in Berlin, studied creative writing for the stage at the Berlin University of the Arts. Her piece “White Passing” was premiered by Schauspiel Leipzig in the context of Autor:innentheatertage Berlin in 2022 and is still part of Diskothek’s repertoire. The experts’ poll of the magazine Theater heute voted Sarah Kilter to be Emerging Dramatist of the Year in 2022.
Director Marco Damghani studied theatre directing at the Ernst Busch University of Theatre Arts Berlin and at the Natonal Institute of Dramatic Arts in Sydney. At Schauspiel Leipzig, he previously staged his own texts “Die Leiden des jungen Azzlack” and “Anouk & Adofa” as well as the studio production “Nullerjahre”, based on the novel by Hendrik Bolz, in 2024.
