Katharina Schmidt

Katharina Schmidt was born in Alma Ata in 1982 and grew up in Hamburg. From 2002 to 2006, she studied at Leipzig’s Hochschule für Musik und Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy”. This was followed by engagements at Staatstheater Stuttgart, Theater Basel, Theater Freiburg, Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg and Residenztheater Munich as well as Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, where she worked with directors like Florentine Klepper, Sebastian Nübling, Martin Kušej, Dušan David Parízek und Miloš Lolić. Furthermore, she has worked with the dance company pvc and is a member of the independent theatre company Candlelight Dynamite. In 2006, Katharina Schmidt received a solo award at the conference of drama schools for her performance as Annabella in “’Tis Pity She’s a Whore”, directed by Sascha Hawemann.

She made her directorial debut with “Der Weibsteufel” by Karl Schönherr. During the 2016/17 season, she was the artistic director of “Die 12 Monate”, a project based on a story by Božena Němcová and presented at Leipzig Zoo. From season 2015/16 to season 2022/23 she was a permanent member of the acting company at Schauspiel Leipzig.
