Open rehersal & follow-up-discussion „The Juliet Duet“

Erna Ómarsdóttir (Reykjavík) / Halla Ólafsdóttir (Stockholm)
With "The Juliet Duet", the Icelandic choreographers and dancers Erna Ómarsdóttir and Halla Ólafsdóttir take on the ballet piece "Romeo and Juliet" by Sergei Prokofiev and focus entirely on the character of Juliet. The score from 1935 serves as a template for a dance concert in which the voice is used as an invisible body and the music as an extension of the body in space. In doing so, they intend to commit nothing less than an exorcism on the centuries-old repressive body ideologies of classical ballet.

Their production residencies, for which they would actually have travelled to Leipzig and Bergen, took place in Reykjavik. From there they provide an insight into the rehearsals and put their project up for discussion in an online talk with the audience. Access is via the homepage of the Schauspie Leipzig.
